This year for Christmas we decided to travel up to Michigan to visit with my extended family. I am sure this will be the last time that we travel until Matthew arrives and it could be the last time for awhile there after! We rented a minivan with my parents and geared up for the long haul with a little one in tow. It actually turned out to be fabulous only because Sarah Kathryn was such an angel. We broke the drive time up into two days going and coming (not intentionally). Thomas, Sarah Kathryn and I stayed at my Aunt Pat's house which was a treat because we never get to see her and my cousins. We made ourselves right at home by unloading all the food from her pantry, taking out all of her Tupperware from the cabinets, opening every drawer and just overtaking her house in general! Sarah Kathryn is on the move and she does not stop!! I was super impressed with how well she did with all the excitement, people and events. I thought things were going to be a disaster seeing that she was constipated for 72 hours while there and had not eaten hardly anything during that time but she surprised us and was still in good spirits! We had such a wonderful time just hanging out and visiting with everyone.
Christmas day my brother and sister-in-law drove into town from Milwaukee and shared some great news with us. Sarah Kathryn is finally going to have a cousin!!!! We are elated to hear the news and we only wish they lived closer so we could enjoy the new baby.
We were super blessed this year with gifts. Everyone was so generous with their gifts and honestly I still don't know where to put everything that Sarah Kathryn received. She is a bit spoiled but does not mind it at all.
Our trip would have been absolutely perfect if it had not been for the trip back home. We left after Sarah Kathryn's nap on Sunday afternoon. We had planned to drive the entire night while Sarah Kathryn slept. Well, we made it into Ohio (barely) and hit a terrible snow/ice storm. We were bumper to bumper on the interstate going 2 mph and at times completely stopped. Cars were spinning out all around us so we made the decision to stop at a hotel overnight. We drove for about 4.5 hours but only got about 2.5 hours from my aunts house. It was a nightmare. We got up super early Monday morning and made the long drive back to Bama. Thank the Lord for DVD players and Elmo movies...not sure we could have done without!
We hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas!!!
